Definitively showing an Asian influence over the last two decades, the population of British Columbia forms a melting pot comparable to the one found on the Californian coast. Many think that this Canadian province, with its neighbour states, Oregon and Washington, offers the most wonderful landscapes of the North American continent. The Ocean and archipelagos, the mountains and valleys allow young persons to develop some unique perspectives on the world and are dream places for the lover of nature. The urban development of the City of Vancouver (with around 600,000 inhabitants) has been mastered remarkably. Situated on the Straight of Georgia, at the foot of the mountains, facing the Island of Vancouver, it is a beautiful place attracting tourists from around the world.

Regina, capital of the province of Saskatchewan, is situated in the centre of the great Canadian Plains. The sunsets offer an unforgettable show of lights. Winter is long, very cold and dry, and the temperature can go down to minus 30 degrees Celsius. Summer is hot and dry with little precipitation.

The City of Regina was created in 1883 along the trans-continental railway, as it made its way westward. The Regina Training Depot is the training centre of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. With its famous equestrian tradition, these mounted police, popularized by Hollywood movies, have become a symbol of Canada.

There are numbers cultural activities to take in all year round:

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum offers a permanent exhibition on the life of the Plains Indians.

October to April is hockey season and there are numerous competitive hockey games to enjoy.

Mid-April, a powwow brings aboriginal dancers together, coming from all over Canada and the USA.

Beginning of July, the Flatland music festival brings together Saskatchewan local artists.

Mid-August, the Regina Folk Festival, three days of folk, folk-rock, blues and country music, is a national attraction.

End of August, the Dragon Boat Festival is a famous boat race on Wascana Lake.

All through summer, there are numerous rodeos to take in and enjoy professional Canadian football games at Regina’s Taylor Field, home to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

With its festivals, major events and attractions, the City of Regina has so much to offer to its visitors. This oasis in the heart of the Canadian Prairies, not very well known to tourists, really deserves to be visited. And also … the inhabitants of Regina are very warm, friendly, and welcoming – making it difficult to leave.

Have completed 2 or more years of study of the host country’s language

Have a grade point average of 3.0 or better

Have experience living away from home

Possess a mature, open, flexible attitude, and be ready to give rather than receive

Host Families:
Host families are very carefully selected. They are fully volunteers, warm and caring people who gladly open their home and hearts to our students. Their only hope is to learn more about your culture and to share their family and lifestyle with their new "son" or "daughter". As a member of the family, you will participate in all family activities, including meal-time, and assume the same responsibility as your host sisters and brothers.

School:
You will attend school near your new home and be requested to attend all classes. Upon arrival, you will be helped and oriented by your Terra Lingua coordinator and/or a school counselor to choose the different subjects you will want to take. Some will be compulsory; some others will be your choice. Within the school, you will be expected to strictly follow the school rules, to attend all classes, to do your homework, and to be a successful student. The first month will be the hardest because of the language. You should however never hesitate to ask for help to your teachers or the host family in any field. Your success at school is a crucial part in the success of your experience.

Support Network:
All students abroad have a coordinator in their host community, as well as a national office. They are always available and eager to assist you throughout your entire stay abroad. You will be able to count on them for any support you need.
